A 1200 denier ripstop turnout in four fills, so one blanket line covers the whole year.

Waterproof, windproof and breathable, over a 200 denier nylon lining that smooths the coat rather than rubbing it. Denier measures the thickness of the fiber, and ripstop is a grid weave that stops a tear spreading once it starts. At 1200 denier this is a heavy shell, and on a horse turned out in company that grid is the difference between a small hole and a ruined blanket.

Specifications:

  • 1200 denier ripstop outer
  • Waterproof, windproof, breathable
  • 200 denier nylon lining, coat smoothing
  • Fleece lining at the withers

  • Low cross surcingles
  • Adjustable leg straps
  • Tail flap
  • Stainless steel hardware
  • Sizes 69 in through 84 in
  • Fills: 0g, 100g, 200g, 300g

Choosing the fill. This is the real decision.

0g is a rain sheet: no warmth at all, just a waterproof shell for a wet mild day. 100g is light, for cool weather on a horse carrying its own coat. 200g is a medium weight for genuine cold. 300g is a heavyweight for hard winters or a clipped horse. A horse in too much fill sweats under it, which is worse than being slightly cold.

Fit:

Measure from the center of the chest, along the side, to the point of the buttock. Sizes run 69 to 84 inches in three inch steps.

Colors and trim:

  • Royal Blue with Royal Blue trim
  • Grey with Grey and Burgundy trim
  • Burgundy with Charcoal Grey trim
  • Hunter Green with Dark Green and Black trim

What sets this one apart:

A 1200 denier ripstop shell in four fills, from a 0g rain sheet to a 300g heavyweight, on one contoured pattern with a fleece wither lining, extended gussets and stainless hardware. A heavy shell earns its keep on a horse in a herd or one that finds fences.

Why it is here:

Four fills in one blanket line. Buying warmth by the gram rather than by the word on the label is how a blanket ends up matching the climate instead of the marketing.
