A sheepskin hunter show pad with a channel spine and two sets of shims.

This is a full show pad built on the shimmable construction, so it does the fitting job and the turnout job at once rather than sitting under a second pad. Plush premium sheepskin over a channel spine, with two sets of removable inserts supplied: thicker memory foam and thinner felt.

Specifications:

  • Plush premium sheepskin
  • Channel spine
  • Two sets of removable shims: thicker memory foam, thinner felt
  • Hunter show cut
  • White
  • Sizes 15 to 15.75 in, 16 to 16.5 in, and 17 to 17.5 in

What the shims do:

A shim is a removable insert that changes the thickness of the pad at the front or the back. It is how a rider corrects a saddle sitting low in front, or bridging through the middle, without having the saddle reflocked. Memory foam gives more correction, felt gives less, and both sets come with the pad.

Care:

Remove the shims before washing. Machine wash lukewarm with a leather wash and line dry. Ovation does not recommend the dryer.

What sets this one apart:

A full pad, cut for the hunter ring and worn on its own rather than under another pad. Plush premium sheepskin over a channel spine, with two sets of removable shims supplied, thicker memory foam and thinner felt, so the fit correction sits inside the pad the ring actually sees.

Why it is here:

One pad instead of two. A shimmed half pad under a show pad is two layers between a saddle and a back, and putting the correction into the show pad itself is the tidier answer in a ring where a rider is being looked at.
