A body protector is a foam vest that absorbs impact energy in a fall. Ovation states this one is certified to ASTM F1937-2004 (R2023). It closes with a YKK front zipper and adjusts at three points: hook and loop shoulder straps and dual hook and loop side panels. Reflective piping runs front and back for low light. The shell is 100% polyester.

Fit, and why it is not optional:

Ovation states that for maximum performance and protection the protector must fit snugly, be free from rips or tears, and remain securely in position when adjusted. A body protector that moves in a fall is not protecting the part of the body it has moved off. Use all three adjustment points: shoulders first, then both side panels.

Foam or airbag:

This is a foam body protector. It works by absorbing impact through the material itself, with no trigger, no cartridge and nothing to replace after a fall that leaves it undamaged. The airbag garments in the Protected Rider collection work differently, inflating on release from the saddle. Neither replaces the other. Check the rulebook for the discipline you compete in before assuming one satisfies a requirement.

Why it is here:

A named certification with a revision year attached. ASTM F1937-2004 (R2023) can be checked. A body protector sold without a standard named is a padded jacket.
