A traditional Fillis-shaped iron in billet aluminum, with a traction pin footbed and no release mechanism. Sold as a pair.
This is the plain iron: no release mechanism, and no footbed or pin options. The shape is a conventional Fillis, so it reads as correct in an equitation or hunter ring from any distance. What is not conventional is underneath: a ramp-in footbed that lets the foot settle rather than perch on a bar, and an interchangeable traction pin system that grips the sole of the boot directly instead of relying on a rubber tread that polishes smooth over a season. The body is 6061 T6 billet aluminum machined from solid, hand polished in a Super Chrome finish, with a stated lateral crush strength of 3,000 lb per square inch. The slim footbed keeps the weight at 315 grams each.
Specifications:
- Traditional Fillis shape
- 6061 T6 aircraft billet aluminum, machined from solid
- Stated lateral crush strength 3,000 lb per square inch
- Slim footbed with ramp-in design
- Interchangeable traction pin system
- Hand polished, Super Chrome finish
- Weight 315 g each
- Dimensions 4.95 in W x 2.0 in D x 6.5 in H
- Sold as a pair
This iron has no release mechanism.
That is a deliberate specification rather than an omission, and it is the thing to be clear about before ordering. A release is a movable outer arm that opens under the pressure of a foot pushing outward. This iron has no such arm, so if a safety release is what you are looking for, this is not the iron for it.
What sets this one apart:
A traditional Fillis shape with no release mechanism and no footbed or pin options to choose. It is 6061 T6 billet aluminum machined from solid and hand polished in Super Chrome, with a slim ramp-in footbed 2.0 inches deep, an interchangeable traction pin system, and a stated lateral crush strength of 3,000 lb per square inch.
Why it is here:
A billet iron in a plain Fillis shape. It is machined from solid 6061 T6 rather than stamped or cast, and American Equus states a lateral crush strength of 3,000 lb per square inch.
