A snaffle bridle in Havana with a beaded browband in black, peach, cream and white, and roller buckles throughout.

The browband is beaded in a four-color arrangement rather than a single tone, so it carries warm tones as well as dark ones. The crown is contoured to sit behind the ears rather than across them, and the crank noseband is padded. The detail worth noticing is the hardware: stainless steel with roller buckles, which carry a rotating barrel at the tongue so a strap slides through under tension instead of dragging. Anyone who has done up a noseband on a cold morning knows the difference. Rubber-lined leather reins are included.

Fitting a crank noseband:

A crank can be closed far tighter than a plain buckle, and the mechanism makes that easy to do without noticing. It should be snug, not tight. Two fingers should slide flat between the noseband and the nasal bone.

Fit:

Full size only. There is no Cob and no Oversize in this bridle. Standard measurements vary by a quarter to a half inch, so measure the bridle currently in use, and check the browband first: a beaded browband has no give at all.

Cologne or Bonn:

Beading is where the two differ. The Cologne beads the browband only, in four colors, and is Havana in Full size alone. The Bonn beads both the browband and the noseband, comes in Black or Havana, and runs Cob through Oversize. Cologne is the single accent; Bonn is the fuller statement.

Reins included:

Rubber-lined leather reins, which give the grip of rubber with the appearance of leather from a distance.

Why it is here:

Roller buckles. The rotating barrel at the tongue lets a strap slide through under tension instead of dragging, which makes every adjustment easier and reduces the wear a plain tongue puts into the leather.
