Calfskin stirrup leathers with a nylon insert running through them, 1 inch wide, offered in a choice of length and leather color. Stirrup irons are not included.

The nylon insert is what resists the stretch here, not the leather. Calfskin is a soft, fine hide, and on its own it would give steadily under a rider's weight, which is why calfskin is more often used as a lining than as a load bearing strap. Running nylon through the inside of the leather puts the load on a material that does not creep, so the calfskin stays as the surface the leg meets while the nylon carries the weight. The buckles are flat stainless steel, so they pass over the stirrup bar and sit flat beneath the thigh.

Specifications:

  • Calfskin leather with a nylon insert on the inside
  • 1 inch wide
  • 18 numbered holes, 1 inch apart
  • Flat stainless steel buckles
  • Matching stitching
  • Lengths: 120 cm / 48 inches, 135 cm / 54 inches, 150 cm / 60 inches
  • Leather colors: Black, Havana (Choco Brown), Oak Brown (Reddish Brown)

What sets this one apart:

The strap is calfskin with a nylon insert running through the inside, and the nylon is what resists the stretch rather than the hide. That puts the load on a material that does not creep, so a soft calfskin face can sit against the leg without the leather itself having to carry the rider's weight. The buckles are flat stainless steel, so they pass over the stirrup bar and sit flat beneath the thigh.

Why it is here:

The resistance to stretch is structural. The nylon insert carries the load, so a soft calfskin face can sit against the leg without the hide itself having to hold the rider's weight.
