Stirrup leathers in pre-stretched vegetable tanned leather, 1 inch wide, offered in a choice of length and leather color. Stirrup irons are not included.

The hide is pre-stretched before it is sold, and that is the whole point of the model. New leather elongates under a rider's weight, and a leather that has given more on one side than the other leaves the rider sitting crooked. Taking that movement out of the hide before it reaches the saddle is what keeps the numbered holes meaningful. The buckles are flat stainless steel, so they pass over the stirrup bar and lie flat under the thigh instead of standing up as a ridge beneath the flap.

Specifications:

  • Pre-stretched vegetable tanned leather
  • 1 inch wide along the full length
  • 18 numbered holes, 1 inch apart
  • Flat stainless steel buckles
  • Matching stitching
  • Lengths: 120 cm / 48 inches, 135 cm / 54 inches, 150 cm / 60 inches
  • Leather colors: Black, Havana (Choco Brown), Oak Brown (Reddish Brown)

What sets this one apart:

The resistance to stretch comes from the hide itself, stretched before sale rather than lined or reinforced with anything, and the strap is 1 inch wide along its whole length. Taking that movement out of the leather before it reaches the saddle is what keeps the numbered holes meaningful and the two sides level. The buckles are flat stainless steel, so they pass over the stirrup bar and lie flat under the thigh instead of standing up as a ridge beneath the flap.

Why it is here:

The stretch is taken out of the hide before sale rather than under the rider, which is what keeps the numbered holes honest and the two sides matched.
