A KK Ultra loose ring snaffle with a 14 mm mouthpiece, in Sensogan.
Herm Sprenger developed the KK Ultra from measurements of horses' mouth cavities taken with the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover. That research found the sensitive horse mouth offers very little space for a bit, and the KK Ultra's shape is the answer to that constraint. The middle link sits at a 45 degree angle and is shortened compared with conventional double-jointed bits. When the reins are taken up, the lozenge rolls gently over the center of the tongue and the connecting rings roll without pressing.
Specifications:
- 14 mm mouthpiece
- Sensogan
- Double jointed with a 45° angled center link
- Shortened middle link
- Loose ring
- Sizes 5, 5.25 and 5.75 inches
What sets this one apart:
The mouthpiece is 14 mm, a thickness that carries the rein aid without crowding a mouth that has little room for a bit. The middle link is shortened and set at a 45 degree angle, so the lozenge rolls over the middle of the tongue rather than pressing into it. Sizes run 5, 5.25 and 5.75 inches.
Why it is here:
The research. Herm Sprenger developed this shape from mouth-cavity measurements taken with the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover, and publishes that as the basis for the shortened, forward-angled center link.
