A 26 foot nylon lunge line in eight colors.

One inch nylon webbing, wide enough to grip without gloves and to be gathered without cutting into a hand. Length is the specification that matters on a lunge line: at 26 feet a horse can work on a genuine circle rather than a tight one, and a small circle at speed is where lunging does damage rather than good. Every extra foot of line is two extra feet of circle diameter.

Specifications:

  • 1 in durable nylon webbing
  • 26 ft length
  • Colors: Black, Purple, Royal Blue, Red, Wine, Navy Blue, Hunter Green, Teal

What sets this one apart:

One inch nylon webbing, wide enough to grip without gloves and to be gathered without cutting into a hand. The line runs 26 feet, which puts a horse on a genuine circle rather than a tight one, since every extra foot of line is two extra feet of circle diameter. It is offered in Black, Purple, Royal Blue, Red, Wine, Navy Blue, Hunter Green and Teal.

What it is for:

Exercising a horse between rides, and working a young horse not yet started under saddle. It is also the first tool used when teaching a horse to accept a surcingle and side reins.

A note on use:

Never wrap a lunge line around a hand or an arm. Fold it in loops held in the palm so it can be released instantly. A horse that spooks on the end of 26 feet of webbing generates more force than a person can hold.

Why it is here:

Twenty-six feet of one inch webbing. Shorter lines force a smaller circle, which is the opposite of what a lunge line should be doing for a horse's joints.
