The saddle strap that anchors an equestrian airbag to the saddle. One is included with every airbag vest; this is the spare or replacement.

Installation:

Remove both stirrup leathers from the saddle. The strap is shaped like a Y. Attach the Y arms to the stirrup bars on each side, loosening the strap as needed to reach them, then replace the stirrups.

Adjustment matters:

The rider is responsible for correct installation, and length is the whole question.

  • Too long: can delay or prevent the airbag from triggering, which is a particular risk on a small horse or pony
  • Too short: can restrict the rider, particularly over fences

To check the length: mount with the airbag on, attach the carabiner to the metal ring of the strap, and stand in the stirrups. The elastic section of the lanyard should be barely stretched.

Why it is here:

An airbag triggers because the strap pulls the lanyard. Strap length is what decides whether that happens, and it costs nothing to check.
