The plain one. Flat, unpadded, double-thick strap leather, in the traditional hunter field pattern.

Bridles are commonly raised, padded, stitched or beaded. The Sawgrass is none of those, and that is the reason to buy it. Double-thick flat leather is the oldest bridle construction there is: two layers of strap leather with nothing built up on top, which means fewer places for a bridle to crack and nothing to come unstitched. Grewal builds it in top-quality leather with stainless steel hardware, and includes coordinating laced reins.

Specifications:

  • Double-thick flat strap leather
  • Unpadded
  • Stainless steel hardware
  • Laced reins included
  • Havana
  • Sizes Full (Horse) and Oversize

Fit:

Standard bridle measurements vary by a quarter to a half inch, so measure the bridle currently in use rather than ordering by breed or height. Check the browband first: it is the one piece that cannot be let out, and a short browband pulls the crown into the base of the ears.

What sets this one apart:

Double-thick flat strap leather, two layers with nothing built up on top, so there is no raised profile, no padding and no fancy stitching anywhere on it. Top-quality leather with stainless steel hardware, and coordinating laced reins are included. Havana, in Full and Oversize.

Reins included:

Laced. Reins are included with this bridle, and the type varies more than buyers expect. Laced reins are the show-ring standard and give grip through short leather crossings rather than through rubber.

Why it is here:

A schooling bridle should be the one you stop thinking about. No padding to compress, no fancy stitch to unravel, double-thick leather where it takes the load. That is why this one is in the collection rather than a thinner bridle.
