An offset dee snaffle with a copper inlay, 1 1/4 inches in circumference.

At 1 1/4 inches in circumference this is a thin mouthpiece, which matters more than it sounds. Conventional advice runs toward thicker being kinder, but a horse with a thick tongue or a low palate has no room for a thick mouthpiece and will fuss in one. On that horse a thinner bit is the comfortable bit. The dee cheek, 2 inches vertical onto 2 3/4 inch rings, gives strong lateral stability against the side of the face. The copper inlay is set into the stainless mouthpiece and is used because it is said to encourage salivation.
